Social Opportunities Activities and Relationships (SOAR) provides an opportunity for children on the waiting list to be matched with a mentor.
This is a group program where volunteers and children get together for 2-3 hours per week, on weeknight evenings to spend time in the community. Each session lasts for 12 weeks.
There are currently 3 groups:
SOAR girls aged 7-16years
SOAR junior boys aged 7-12 years
SOAR senior boys aged 13-16 years
SOAR volunteers are adults over 18 who wish to share special skills, are enthusiastic and reliable and have access to a vehicle.
Typical activities include bowling, mini-putt, museum tours, crafts, sports, movies, swimming, games, educational workshops, woodworking and fishing.
The SOAR program is supported in part by the City of Hamilton/WCB Program.
