Big Couple/Family Mentoring

Big Couple/Family Mentoring

Big Couple/Family Mentoring is an extension of our Traditional Match (Big Brothers Big Sisters) Program. In the Traditional Match Program, a child is matched one-to-one with a mentor, whereas Big Couple/Family Mentoring allows for couples and/or families to volunteer and act as mentors together.

The Big Couple/Family program provides children with role models and friends to talk to and share the experiences of growing up with. Through regular outings, a relationship is developed between the mentors and the mentee. Mentoring relationships are built on trust and common interests, and are supported by our experienced case-workers. The result is a life-changing experience for the mentors and the mentee.

Time commitment

The Big Couple/Family Mentoring program requires a minimum1-year commitment. A few hours a week is all that it takes to help a child build the confidence they need to achieve their true potential.

Research shows that children who are mentored are more likely to stay in school, make smarter and safer behavioural choices and have stronger relationships with their parents, peers and community.

The program strives to do the following:

  • provide role models and a friends for youth.
  • promote the importance of staying in school and healthy relationships with family and peers.
  • instill trust and self-confidence in order to make healthy decisions.
  • encourage leadership skills and independent thinking.
  • and above all, make a difference while having fun.
