Youthvision Scholarship 004

Big news for one of our Littles - Hannah-Rae receives a CIBC YouthVision Scholarship

June 2012 - On June 27th, one of our Agency’s Littles received a BIG piece of paper. The paper was not big in its physical size, rather what it represents. Fifteen-year-old Hannah-Rae is among 29 other Canadian youth who had a 2012 CIBC Youthvision Scholarship Presentation this summer – she will be awarded up to $36,000 for her post-secondary education.

Alongside Hannah-Rae, her father, Gord, and two BBBSHB representatives, eight CIBC employees were present during the mid-morning presentation. Among the CIBC representatives was Raymond Gagne, CIBC District Vice President. “We’re really proud to provide this kind of support,” he said, adding that “It’ll be amazing to see where you are in 10 – 15 years.”

The door of opportunity truly has been opened for Hannah-Rae. Well aware of the honour and significance of the scholarship, Hannah-Rae said, “I was ecstatic when I heard that I won … so much that I actually started to cry.”
No tears present on scholarship Presentation day – Hannah-Rae’s face was lit up all morning. From ear-to-ear, her grin could not be contained.

This summer, Hannah-Rae completed an internship at the YMCA. In two years, when high school is complete, Hannah-Rae would like to attend McMaster University or Niagara College in hopes of becoming a computer technologist.

The Youthvision Scholarship initiative began 12 years ago. In partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada and the YMCA, the Scholarship aims to encourage youth to pursue a post-secondary education by helping them to realize their academic potential and accommodate their financial needs. To date, the Scholarship has helped 390 students and awarded $10 million to help youth discover their dreams.
